Carteret Community Foundation Awards Scholarships to Local Students

The board of directors of the Carteret Community Foundation announced the award of 17 scholarships to Carteret County students. Seven scholarship funds are administered by the Carteret Community Foundation, an affiliate of the North Carolina Community Foundation (NCCF).

Richard McIntyre, president of the Carteret Community Foundation’s board of directors, presented certificates to scholarship recipients at an awards reception on June 16 at the History Place in Morehead City.

“All these students embody the academic excellence and community spirit that these scholarships were established to recognize, McIntyre said.

“I am pleased that the Carteret Community Foundation can assist our local donors who have made these scholarships possible. Their generosity will assist students from kindergarten through college to receive the good educations they will need to be successful.”

The following students received college scholarships:

  • Alan Spencer Hill, West Carteret High School – Carteret Association of Homebuilders Murdoch Scholarship
  • Ashton Davis Springle, East Carteret High School – William E. Smith, Jr. Memorial Scholarship
  • Josh Lee Fleming, Croatan High School – Joseph H. Tallman Scholarship in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering
  • Matthew Gildner of Morehead City, now attending the Massachusetts Institute of Technology - Joseph H. Tallman Scholarship in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering (renewal)
  • Jacob C. Willis of Morehead City, now attending UNC-Charlotte - Joseph H. Tallman Scholarship in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering (renewal)
  • Patricia Kay Davis, East Carteret High School – Joe “Boy” Willis Scholarship
  • Trey Creech of Newport, now attending UNC-Chapel Hill – Edward S. Dixon Scholarship (renewal)
  • Matthew Joyner, East Carteret High School – V.J. “Puck” and Pearl O’Neal Scholarship

The following students received awards from the Sarah Jane Newberry Scholarship fund to support their attendance at a local K-12 Christian school:

  • Celeste Cote, Newport
  • Michael Guthrie, Newport
  • Ryan Ryerson, Smyrna
  • Randy Fulcher, Stacey
  • Cullen Crump, Newport
  • Cuyler Crump, Newport
  • Andrew Clark, Newport
  • John Doyle, IV, Morehead City
  • Sophia Doyle, Morehead City
